How To Root: One-Click for Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008

  1. Your phone must be connected via USB data cable to your computer and recognized.
  2. If your phone is connected, but not recognized, you may need to install one of these software drivers:

  3. Download this one-click root package: PetesMotorolaRootTools_v1.07.zip
  4. Extract the contents of the one-click root package to a new folder on your computer.
  5. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled on your device. This should be under Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB Debugging.
  6. From the new folder on your computer, double-click on Pete's Motorola Root Tools to begin the root process.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the root process.



 How To Root: One-Click for Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server

Please try the Windows Vista/7 method first! It will work better for most Windows XP users.
Only use this method if the other has not worked yet.

[3]. Rooting your android phone with easy rooting toolkit


  1. First Extract rooting kit to any safe place like desktop
  2. Double click on “runme.bat” run-doom-lords-run-me-bat
  3. It will run rooting script and you will see a command prompt like below first-cmd-image
  4. Now connect your phone to pc 
  5. Once your phone successfully connected to pc , hit any key to start rooting. It will complete in few seconds . During this process don’t close command prompt or don’t disconnect your phone
  6. on completion your phone will reboot , and “ALL DONE!!” message will appear in command prompt that means your phone rooted successfully
  7. Now you can press any key to close it

How To: Root Motorola i1 [ADB Method]




Finally there is some great news for Motorola i1 users waiting to root their handsets. GotHeart at CyanogenMod Forum has achieved root through conventional ADB method. There is no single click root available until now for i1, but we can speculate it to surface real soon. Here is the step by step guide on rooting your Motorola i! but please only try this if you are comfortable with ADB based rooting.

1. The first step is to install ADB along with Motorola drivers. After you have installed ADB, it is recommended but not essential to add “Tools” to your drive path.
2. Once you have installed the above mentioned goodies, download Motorolai1-Root.zip file, extract and save on C drive Root i.e. C:\I1RootFiles.
3. Connect your Motorola i1 to the computer and run command prompt [Start > Run> cmd].
4. Now type The following commands In Command Prompt[ This will push all necessary files to your handset’s SD card]:
  • adb devices
  • adb push C:\I1RootFiles\Superuser.apk /sdcard/Superuser.apk
  • adb push C:\I1RootFiles /sdcard/su
  • adb push C:\I1RootFiles\rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
  • adb push C:\I1RootFiles\Install-Root-sh /data/local/tmp/Install-Root.sh
  • adb push C:\I1RootFiles\busybox /sdcard/busybox
5. Now you have all the files needed for rooting on your handset’s SD card. After this, Type the following commands in command prompt:
  • adb shell
  • cd /data/local/tmp
  • chmod 0755 rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
  • chmod 0755 Install-Root.sh
6. Wait for the installation to finish and keep your phone connected to computer.
7. Once the installation is complete, launch Market and download ConnectBot Terminal.
8. Now open ConnectBot on your phone and type:
  • cd /data/local/tmp
  • /rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
9. Now wait until [+]Forked XXXX Childs message appears.
10. Once you see the message mentioned above, type exit to close ConnectBot Terminal.
11. Once this is done, re launch ConnectBot on your phone and type:
  • /data/local/tmp/Install-Root.sh
  • exit
  • exit
12. After running the commands mentioned above, you will see # sign instead of $. If this is the case, then you have successfully rooted your phone.
13. Now reboot your phone through ConnectBot by typing:
  • #Sync
  • #reboot
There are no custom ROMS available until now but with root achieved, the possibilities are virtually limitless, so Enjoy!

How to Root Motorola Milestone





Motorola Milestone - the GSM version of Motorola Droid - came with Android 2.1 Éclair, which could be easily rooted using an application that used an exploit to fool the OS into enabling SuperUser rights for many applications. However, if you are looking to customize your device to the fullest and get access to Android features like tethering, screenshots, overclocking or if you need to install Custom ROMs on it, you’ll need to get full root access on your device by using the Vulnerable Recovery Flash method. Below mentioned are the instructions that help you do so:

  1. Install the USB Drivers on the your PC.
  2. Plug your phone into the PC via USB Cable, let windows install and detect any internal devices on the Milestone.
  3. Rename ‘milestone_root.zip’ to ‘update.zip’ and copy it on the root of your SD card.
  4. Disconnect the phone, run RSDLite 4.6 on your PC , and connect the phone again. If you pull down the status bar and tap on ‘Select to manage your USB Connection’, you will see that the Milestone is now connected on Portals & Tools. If any other Motorola applications start off, ignore and exit them.
  5. RDSLite will show your phone model number ‘A853’ and the status should be ‘Connected’.
  6. Press ‘…’ button to browse for the ‘vulnerable_recovery_only_RAMDLD90_78.sbf’ and load it.
  7. The ‘Start’ button would now be enabled. Please ensure the USB connection is secure and start the flash.
  8. Keep an eye on the status bar, the Milestone will reboot into bootloader, flash the recovery firmware and start back up into RSD Lite showing a ‘Finished’ or ‘PASS’ status.
  9. Exit RSDLite and Remove the USB Connection
  10. Power off your phone. Press and Hold the ‘X’ button on the device and press the Power button, keep them help until the phone boots into recovery.(screen will show an exclamation mark inside a triangle)
  11. Press and hold the Volume Up button and now press the Camera button to go into Android System Recovery.
  12. You would be presented with four menu options. Scroll down to ‘Apply Update:update.zip’ using the D-pad and the golden key to enter.
  13. Wait for the process to complete and select ‘Reboot System’ to let the phone boot back into Android.
Congratulations! Your Motorola Milestone is now rooted.
There are two methods to confirm your root access, firstly there should be an application newly installed in your app drawer called ‘Superuser Whitelist’, indicating that you have root access. Alternatively, you can download any terminal emulator and enter ‘su’ on it. A popup should appear, asking you to grant superuser right. Once permission is given, the $ sign should change to # confirming the application now has superuser rights on the device.

How To Root Motorola Milestone XT720 Running Android 2.2.1 FroYo With SuperOneClick

There is some great news for your if you just got your Motorola Flipout and were looking to root it right away. The root for Motorola Flipout is pretty easy as the Universal Android Root App does the task without any glitch.

Here are the step by step instructions on rooting your Motorola Flipout with universal Androot App:
  1. The first step is to download the Universal Androot App. flipout
  2. Once the download is complete, unzip the file and save APK file on your desktop.
  3. Now connect your Motorola Flipout with with computer using USB cable and mount SD card.
  4. Once this is done, copy the APK file you extracted to your desktop on SD card root.
  5. Now disconnect your phone from the computer [Although it’s not necessary] and launch Market.
  6. Now search for Linda or Astro File Manager and install the app.
  7. Once the file manager of you choice is installed, launch it and follow onscreen instructions to install Androot APK file from SD card.
  8. Now wait for the installation to finish and launch Universal Androot Application.
  9. In the application, tap on “Root :-) ” and wait for the procedure to finish.

If you are a Motorola Defy owner and want to root your Android device to be able to install root-only apps on it or flash a custom ROM to it, read on for the complete guide.

  1. Install the USB drivers on your computer and restart the computer.
  2. Shut down the phone and restart it while keeping the volume-up button pressed. This will get your phone into bootloader mode.
  3. Connect your phone to your computer via USB. Its bootloader drivers will get automatically installed.
  4. Restart the computer again and also restart your phone normally into Android this time.
  5. Connect your phone to your computer and let its normal drivers get automatically installed.
  6. Make sure USB debugging is DISABLED on your phone in Settings > Applications > Development.
  7. Launch SuperOneClick on your computer by right-clicking on it and selecting ‘Run as Administrator’.
  8. Click ‘Root’. It will say ‘Waiting for device…’
  9. Now ENABLE USB debugging on your phone in Settings > Applications > Development.
  10. Wait patiently till you see a prompt on your computer saying ‘Device is rooted’.
  11. Reboot your phone and you’re done!
There you go – your Motorola Defy should now be rooted. You can now install thousands of apps to your phone that require root access, install a custom recovery image to perform a range of advanced operations and even flash a custom ROM to your phone!

Finally there is some good news for Motorola Devour owners waiting for a root to emerge. It is noticeable that Motorola Devour root procedure is the same as rooting Motorola Droid X with only some minor changes. The rooting method for devour is working fine but we are still not sure whether a custom ROM has been flashed after achieving the root.

Here is the step by step guide on rooting your Motorola Devour direct from Android Forums. Please note that this procedure is only intended for advanced users meaning that you should have ample hands on rooting experience before embarking on this guide.
This whole set of instructions was lifted directly from the instructions
on how to root the Droid X with a few edits here and there.
(Run means type the command in quotes [but not the quotes] then press the Enter key)
1.Download the attached archive and expand it to a folder you can find (eg. c:\devour_root)
2.Set up ADB (You’ll need to google this part)
3.On the phone: Home, Menu Button, Settings, Applications, Development: Make sure the "USB debugging" option is enabled/checked.
4.Status bar, USB connection: Make sure "PC Mode" is selected.
5.Open a command prompt (Windows: Start, Run, "cmd", OK; Linux: Terminal)
6.Run "adb devices". If you don’t see your device listed under "List of devices attached", return to step 2 and follow the link to setup ADB (use that topic for support) and return here when "adb devices" lists your X.
7.Run "CD c:\devour_root" (or where ever you expanded the archive)
8.Run "adb push Superuser.apk /sdcard/Superuser.apk"
9.Run "adb push su /sdcard/su"
10.Run "adb push busybox /sdcard/busybox"
11.Run "adb push exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals/exploid"
12.Run "adb shell"
13.Run "cd sqlite_stmt_journals"
14.Run "chmod 755 exploid"
15.On your phone, navigate to a screen where you can switch wifi/bluetooth on/off easily (settings, or a home screen with a widget)
16.IMMEDIATELY after executing the next step, toggle wifi or bluetooth off and back on
17.Run "./exploid" and follow directions on screen. Once this completes you’ll be back at a shell prompt.
18.Run "rootshell". You’ll be prompted for a password.
19.Type in password "secretlol" and press Enter then you are root! (You’ll know because your prompt will now be a "#" instead of "$")
20.Run "mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system"
21.Run "busybox cp /sdcard/Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk"
22.Run "busybox cp /sdcard/su /system/bin/su"
23.Run "busybox cp /sdcard/busybox /system/bin/busybox"
24.Run "chmod 4755 /system/bin/su"
25.Run "chmod 4755 /system/bin/busybox"
26.Run "rm /system/bin/rootshell"
27.Run "exit" to drop from root to a non-root user shell (on phone still)
28.Run "exit" to drop back to your machine command prompt (instead of phone)
To Confirm root is established:
Run "adb shell"
Run "su" (now you should see the # sign which indicates you are root)
Watch your screen so you can allow Superuser root access.
You’re done! feel free to kill the bloat apps and such. (I haven’t tested killing anything yet.)
NOTE: It might be a smart idea to do "rm /system/bin/rootshell" after you have su and superuser in place as ANY program will have access to your root if you leave it (cause everyone will know the password)
NOTE: If the ‘busybox cp’ commands do not work try
"dd if=/sdcard/Superuser.apk of=/system/app/Superuser.apk"
"dd if=/sdcard/su of=/system/bin/su"
"dd if=/sdcard/busybox of=/system/bin/busybox"

Getting root access on your Android phone gives you access to a lot of features not otherwise available to the user. It also grants superuser rights to the user, which are not given by default as any changes made through the superuser account can possibly harm the operating system if not done carefully.
However, if you want to use your Droid to the fullest and you know what you are doing, please go ahead and root it with the below mentioned guide. In order to root your device you will need to replace the stock recovery one that allows the rooting of the device.
How To Root with Windows:
  • Download the following files:
  • Install RSD Lite.
  • Once RSD Lite installation is complete, reboot your system.
  • Install Motorola’s USB Drivers as they help your operating system communicate with your Motorola device. Reboot your system.
  • Plug in your device and wait for any drivers installation.
  • Power off your phone while it is plugged in.
  • Power on your Motorola Droid by holding the Power key and the Up button on the D-pad.
  • Open RSD Lite on your system.
  • Click on the ‘…’ button to browse to the location of the SPRecovery file and select it.
  • Once selected, the ‘Start’ button would be enabled. Press Start to flash the recovery image on your device.
  • Watch for Rebooting Device notification on RDS Lite and let the phone reboot.

That’s why we are bringing you a complete guide that you can follow in order to root your Motorola Backflip running any version of Android.

Credit for bringing this rooting procedure to us goes to ModMyMobile forum member Skrilax_CZ who used the rooting method for Motorola Droid 2 and added Backflip specific modifications to get it working on the Backflip. Several users have tried this procedure out and have had success, so it’s quite reliable.
Unlike several other rooting procedures which require simply downloading an app to your computer or phone, running it and clicking or tapping a button, rooting Motorola Backflip requires the use of ADB commands as well as a terminal app on your phone. Though don’t let this intimidate you, as our instructions will even guide newbies through the process with ease.

Requirements:
  • Before you begin, you must have ADB installed. In case you don’t have it already, see our guide on what is ADB and how to install it.
  • Your computer must have the necessary Motorola USB drivers installed. For your convenience, we are proving the drivers for both 32 bit Windows and 64 bit Windows at the links given below. Just unzip the downloaded file and run the installer. while your phone is not connected to your PC.
  • Download the files required for the rooting procedure from the link given below and extract the zip file’s contents to a folder on your computer. We shall be using C:\MotoRoot for the purpose.
  • Android Terminal Emulator QR CodeYou will need a terminal app installed on your Android phone. If you don’t already have one, you can install ‘Android Terminal Emulator’ by searching for it at the Android Market, via AppBrain from the link given below or by scanning this QR Code. We shall be using this app in our guide but you can use another if you like.
Procedure:
  1. Enable USB debugging mode on your phone from Menu > Settings > Applications > Development.
  2. Connect your phone to your PC via USB and set connection to PC Mode i.e. Charge Only.
  3. Launch a Command Prompt window on your computer and enter the following commands:
    adb push c:\MotoRoot\Superuser.apk /sdcard/Superuser.apk
    adb push c:\MotoRoot\su /sdcard/su
    adb push c:\MotoRoot\rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
    adb push c:\MotoRoot\install-root.sh /data/local/tmp/install-root.sh
    adb shell
    cd /data/local/tmp
    chmod 0755 rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
    chmod 0755 install-root.sh
  4. Keep your phone connected to your PC, launch ‘Android Terminal Emulator’ or your favorite terminal app on it and enter the following commands in the app:
    cd /data/local/tmp
    ./rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
  5. You should eventually see this output on the phone:
    [+] Forked xxxx childs.
    Once this message appears, tap the Enter key and then enter the ‘exit’ command. That should close Terminal Emulator.
  6. Launch Terminal Emulator on your phone again. If you see a # prompt, proceed to the next step. If you don’t see it, reboot the phone and try again.Note: In case you can’t get the # prompt even after rebooting, repeat steps 4, 5 and 6 to try again. If you still have no luck with getting the # prompt, use these ADB commands on the computer:
    adb kill-server
    adb devices
    adb shell
    You should now have a # prompt.
  7. Finally, in Terminal Emulator on your phone, enter the following commands:
    /data/local/tmp/install-root.sh
    exit
    exit
That’s all – your phone should now be rooted.

Finally there is some good news for Motorola Bravo users waiting desperately to root their devices. According to XDA member, Gumpo10k, he has attained root on his Motorola Bravo using ADB method previously used for rooting Droid 2. However, we think that it’s pretty strange for none of of the other one-clickers such as SuperOneClick, Universal Androot App and z4root were able to pwn this device.

Here is the step by step guide on rooting your Motorola Bravo with Droid2Root:
Please attempt this guide if you are comfortable and have ample command line rooting experience. be extremely careful as some commands, if mistyped, can cause a permanent brick.
1. The first step is to make sure that you have installed ADB on your computer. You can follow our ADB installation bravo and setup guide posted here for this purpose.
2. Once you have ADB all setup on your PC, download Droid2Root package from here and extract the files to C:\Droid2Root.
3. Once done, connect your phone to the computer and enable USB debugging. Change your Motorola Bravo’s connection to Portal and Tools.
4. Now start command prompt and type the following command:
adb devices (to verify the connection)
cd C:|Droid2Root
adb push Superuser.apk /sdcard/Superuser.apk
adb push su /sdcard/su
adb push busybox /sdcard/busybox
adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
adb shell
cd data/local/tmp
chmod 0755 rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
./rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
5. Now wait for the process to finish until you are returned to C:\Droid2Root directory. Please note that this process is a bit time consuming so do not reboot your device. If nothing comes up after 15 minutes or so, disconnect your device and restart the process from step 3.
6. Once you are back in C:\Droid2Root directory, type the following commands:
adb devices (to verify the connection)
adb shell (you should now have a # prompt)
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk
cp /sdcard/su /system/bin/su
cp /sdcard/busybox /system/bin/busybox
chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
chmod 4755 /system/bin/busybox
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
exit
7. Now you have root on your Motorola Bravo. Now in order to update the Superuser.apk to the latest version, type the following commands:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
rm /system/app/Superuser.apk
pm uninstall com.noshufou.android.su
8. Once you have typed these commands, disconnect your phone from the computer, launch market and search / install superuser.apk by ChainDD.

  • A computer running Windows Vista / 7, Ubuntu 8.04 or later or Debian 5.0 or later.
